Scare Fare is an unofficial event food and drink companion designed for use without an account. This policy explains what the app keeps on your iPhone, what it sends to the Scare Fare service, and why.
Information Scare Fare handles
Information stored on your iPhone
Your Want to Try choices, Tried state, first-tried times, private notes, personal rating history, and saved event menu are stored locally on your device. This information may move to a replacement iPhone through Apple’s normal device-to-device transfer or backup restore process.
Pseudonymous installation identifier
On first launch, Scare Fare creates a random installation identifier. The app sends it with requests so the service can process community ratings, deliver current event data, and operate reliably. Scare Fare does not ask for your name, email address, account credentials, or advertising identifier.
Community ratings
When you submit or remove a rating, the app sends the item, rating value or removal state, and update time. Ratings are used to calculate community counts and averages. Other users do not see your installation identifier or individual rating history.
Community interest and Tried counts
When you change Want to Try or Tried, the app sends the item, your current choice, and its update time. This current state is used to calculate the aggregate Want to Try and Tried counts shown to other users. Other users do not see your installation identifier or individual history.
Scare Fare does not collect item views or other behavioral analytics. Community state does not include precise location, private notes, your name or email, or Apple’s advertising identifier (IDFA).
Location
If you choose to allow While Using location access, Scare Fare uses your position on-device to determine whether Near Me is available and to calculate straight-line distances to event locations. Your precise latitude and longitude are not sent to or stored by the Scare Fare service. You can deny or revoke permission in iOS Settings and continue using the rest of the app.
Sharing
Share buttons create text from the Want to Try list or My HHN summary and open the iOS share sheet. Nothing is shared until you choose a destination. Once you share, the receiving app or service handles that content under its own terms and privacy policy.
Service providers and technical data
Scare Fare uses hosting and database infrastructure to provide event data, accept ratings and community interest state. Hosting and network providers may process technical information such as IP addresses and request metadata to deliver and secure the service. Scare Fare does not use third-party advertising SDKs and does not sell personal information. Service providers are required to use information only to provide their services and to protect it consistently with this policy and applicable law.
Support messages
If you use the Support contact form, Scare Fare collects the name, email address, and message you choose to provide.
Retention and your choices
Local information remains on your iPhone until you change it or remove the app, subject to any device backups you control. Current community rating state, pseudonymous installation records, and current Want to Try and Tried state are kept only as reasonably necessary to operate and secure Scare Fare or to meet legal obligations.
You can use Scare Fare without location access, change or remove a rating in the app, delete private notes and personal choices, and remove local app data by deleting the app. You can make a privacy or deletion request through the Support contact form.
Children
Scare Fare is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
This policy may change as Scare Fare evolves. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
